No one doubts that a new Call of Duty is coming this year. Well soon enough there will be plenty of information about the next time. If you head over to the official COD website you’ll notice a countdown clock counting down to the Basketball Playoffs on TNT. That’s when an announcement will come out.

If you look at the background of the website you’ll notice a vague image that looks like the character from COD: Black Ops. Rumors around the internet suggest that Treyarch is behind this year’s Call of Duty title. This could all point out to a sequel to Black Ops. The title was very successful and still has a big following. Plus, earlier in the year Activision had snagged up the blackops2.com domain. So be on the lookout for that announcement on May 1st during the Basketball Playoffs on TNT.

Amidst the rumors that next-gen consoles may be coming way sooner than we expect, it was only a matter of time before developers starting making plans for next-gen developing.

Sledgehammer Games, the studio that has helped Infinity Ward develop it’s Call of Duty games, especially during the legal disputes with Activision and Treyarch, has posted an opening for work on a 2013 Call of Duty game.

What this hints to is….ongoing legal troubles for Infinity Ward. So, in order to maintain a steady flow of COD content for the fans, Activision is pushing forward development on the series with Sledgehammer Games involved with a large chunk of the project.

However let’s not forget the rumors surrounding 2013 as the release year for Microsoft’s and possibly Sony’s new consoles. An event like this would seem to add some validity to all the rumors.

Money, money, money!  That’s all Activision is counting with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 reaching $1 billion in 16 days since its November 8 launch.  It has now topped Avatar’s record of reaching the $1 billion dollar milestone in 17 days.

“Engagement of our Call of Duty audience continues to rise around the world” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard.  “Call of Duty as an entertainment franchise has made an indelible mark on popular culture and its broad and continued success is further validation that audiences increasingly value interactive experiences over passive experiences.

Call of Duty is now amongst that rarified group of sustained franchises like “Star Wars”, “Harry Potter”, “Lord of the Rings” and the National Football League (NFL) that attract or engage tens of millions of people every year or every new release.”

Have a look at the new multiplayer features Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have implemented for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. They’re opening up the multiplayer to all type of gamers. It helps out all the players that aren’t too hardcore and don’t have the time to learn everything about the game.

No longer will you earn a “Kill Streak” it will now be the “Point Streak System.” They’ve given three choices which are the Assault, Support, and Specialist packages. Along with a name change they also changed the way it all works and builds up. Before you would only build up your streak through kills and that was it. Well now you can build up your streak by capturing flags, assists, and taking domination points. Each package gives you different options of playing and events out the battlefield.

To get the full scoop on the changes check out the video below.
