It seems that Nintendo just keeps pissing off gamers that bought its latest handheld device, 3DS.  Slashing its price five months after releasing here in North America from $249.99 to $169.99, the company has definitely put a slight stain on the brand.  Now to add more to that, Famitsu magazine has published photos that revealed a second Circle Pad add-on.

Being dubbed the, ”3DS Kakuchou Slide Pad” or “3DS Expansion Slide Pad.”  The add-on snaps right below the 3DS system adding a second Circle Pad on the right-side of the four buttons.  The accessory also has an R1 and R2 buttons as well as an extra shoulder button on the top right-side naming it R2.  However, the add-on doesn’t sport an L2 button.

Having the Expansion Slide Pad attached blocks a couple features of the 3DS.  The game cartridge is blocked so if you want to change games you’ll have to remove the Expansion Slide Pad; also the wireless switch is block.  Your headphone jack won’t be block, that’s a relief, right?

It’s been confirmed that the Expansion Slide Pad will work with the popular Japanese game Monster Hunter Tri G.  It’s still unknown at the moment if it’s being released alongside with the game and if Nintendo’s first-party games will get behind it.

Nintendo will hold a 3DS press conference on Tuesday, September 13, 2011.  Until then we’ll have to wait and see what the big “N” will reveal. Who knows perhaps will see a new 3DS revision for a much reasonable price and hopefully a discount for early 3DS adapters.

The good people over at the EU PlayStation Blog have informed us that the PlayStation Network will be down tomorrow, Thursday September 8th.  They are doing this to do maintenance on the network.  All this will be taking place during 1700 – 1900 (British Summer Time) that means over here it will be around 12PM – 2PM EDT.  When the maintenance starts access to the following services will be unavailable:

  • PlayStation Store
  • Account Registration
  • Account Management

This will also affect PlayStation Home and will be unavailable to users from 12PM – 6PM EDT.

Now if you manage to sign in before the maintenance begins you will be able to stay signed in just won’t be able to use any of the features mentioned above.  This announcement came from the European PlayStation Blog.  So it might do affect us over here in the states, but hopefully it will not.  In any case you should still get your self’s all ready.

[Update] Seems we won’t be escaping the PlayStation Network maintenance after all.  It will start at about 9AM – 11AM.  We will lose access to the same features that are listed above.  This is confirmed by the US PlayStation Blog.   Don’t worry though everyone should still be able to play online.  In case you want to know exactly when the network becomes fully available check out the PlayStation Twitter feed.  There you can get up-to-the-minute updates and know exactly when everything is fully up and running.

ESRB Rates Devil May Cry HD Collection….sort of

The ESRB is notoriously known for outing game developers’ plans. Today’s revelation comes in the form of the white-haired demon hunter, Dante (half-demon himself). Ratings on the ESRB website show that Devil May Cry 1,2, and 3 have received reviews for the PS3 as well as the Xbox 360. With rumors circulating the internet of a DMC HD collection, Capcom’s Devil May Cry 10th anniversary art contest, and Dante’s brother, Vergil entering the fray in the upcoming Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 (allegedly),  it would be hard for the developer to deny what’s in the works. While the ESRB ratings make no specific mention of a DMC HD collection, I can hardly see the sense in releasing a straight port of the special collection originally released for the PS2.

This week’s PlayStation Store Update brings us so many great items.  This especially goes to anyone who is a PlayStation Plus member.  They get hooked up and definitely make you think twice about not being one.  This week there are plenty of awesome free games offered by PopCap for PS Plus members.  Among those offered is Plants vs. Zombies, a very addicting and fun game.

If you aren’t a PlayStation Plus Member worry not because there is still plenty of great content available for you to get.  There are a few new games for you to purchase.  BloodRayne: Betrayal is the one that seems most appealing.  Along with the new game we see plenty of demos to help you decide whether the game is worth it or not.

If you’re not impressed with any of the offerings and love old school games then check out Mega Man 4 as part of the PS One Imports.  It is a very difficult game, and no I don’t mean the type of difficulty that would have you running through a plane with only one minute to spare!  This is harder than that, you have been warned.
