BioWare Limits Copies of Star Wars: The Old Republic on Release Day

Whats that? You say Digital Distribution is the wave of future, of course because that means there will be no limitations to how many copies of a game become available.  Oh wait, BioWare says that’s not the case.  They will be putting a limit on how many physical and digital copies are available of Star Wars: The Old Republic during it’s release.  This is kind of surprising and at the same time how they explained it makes a bit of sense.

They reason why they chose to limit available copies of the game is so they could put quality first over quantity.  When the game launches later they don’t want users dealing with trouble connecting to the servers or any other problems that could result from tons and tons of people trying to connect and play.

This move makes sense, but it also gets me really nervous.  It should help them keep up with all the strains their servers will experience, so it should make for a better experience altogether.  At the same time this does make me worry that I might not get a copy of this game and will have to wait a few weeks after launch to play.  If that’s the case then BioWare should know I’ll be checking out Word of Warcraft while I wait for my copy of The Old republic to become available.

Insomniac Games Shows us the Gang Working Together

Ratchet & Clank have always been the best of buds and always been there for each other.  This duo dynamic is what makes every one of their games work so well.  Well how well will that all work out when you toss in two very different characters into the group.  Not so great, since we see lots of petty squabbling and disagreements happen within the group.  We even see one member of the group throw someone off a cliff, that’s just too far and unacceptable.

The trailer shows us more of the game and how the group will be working together to solve different obstacles.  It also gives us a heads up at what kind of humor will be associated with all of them joining forces.  It’s a group you wouldn’t expect to ever really be together, but in a way it all works out and makes for hilarious situations.

Looks like someone is forgetting about the strongest power of them all, love.  Mega Man X received something he never expected from a certain father figure of his.  Too bad it isn’t gonna do him any good against the forces that are bent on his destruction, wait I take it all back.  If you look at the entire video and wait till the end you will see that this accessory does in deed have a special power. It’s a power that brings any enemy straight to the floor for an easy win.  Dr. Light is the man for coming up with such a secret weapon!

Gamescom Awards Given out Early

Even though Gamescom 2011 is still going on for a bit more the “independent expert jury” thought it would be the perfect time to hand out some awards.  Hey why not right, not like anything else more exiting could just come along out of no where.  The choices are pretty solid and I would have gone with the same ones as well.  Not much can be changed of course Battlefield 3 would win, especially after releasing that new Caspian Border multiplayer trailer.

Does anyone disagree with the judge choices? If so what games deserve it more than those? I can’t really think of any other games that deserve more credit than all the ones listed below.  So congratulations to all the winners. They deserve it.

Winners:
Game, Category, Company
  • Battlefield 3, Best of gamescom, Electronic Arts
  • PlayStation Vita, Best Hardware or Hardware Accessories, Sony Computer Entertainment
  • FIFA 12, Best Console Game, Electronic Arts
  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Best Mobile Game, Sony Computer Entertainment
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic, Best Online Game, Electronic Arts

Sony’s next handheld gaming device is showing off a lot of promising and unique titles.  One of those awesome titles is Escape Plan.  Recently announced during this years Gamescom.  The game will feature Lil and Laarg as your two different characters to play with.  By their names you get the impression that one is little and one is large.  By each being different from the other they offer different types of gameplay.  So it’s up to you to use their unique qualities to help them escape the unknown locations.

The game will use lots of the Vita’s unique features to help immerse the player more within the game.  You will be able to use the multi-touch display, rear touch panel and swipe interfaces.  All these different input methods are to wipe, squeeze, poke and slap the characters in order navigating the dangerous environment to reach your destination.  To give you a better understanding of how the game will play out there is a trailer below.

The game looks nice and clean as well.  It looks like it will be an interesting game and sure to get plenty of attention from everyone.

With everything that’s come out of Gamescom I’m glad to see a Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Trailer.  It shows a lot of the environment locations your favorite assassins Ezio and Altaïr will navigate.  There are even parts of the trailer which show the raw power both assassins use when it comes time to dispatch anyone who gets in their way.  It is an awesome trailer and worth watching, especially if you are a fan of the series.  The music that accompanies the trailer is an interesting addition and does amp you up during parts of the trailer.

To see how much of a true assassin Ezio has become is pretty awesome.  He knows whats up and knows how to use all his abilities to the fullest.  He is not someone I would want to mess with.  Especially with all the different tricks he has up his sleeve, and I mean that literally.

I recently became a hardcore fan of this series and I saw it all.  I cannot wait for the release of this game.  I’m sure Ubisoft will give us something amazing in this game, just as in the other earlier ones.

Bethesday goes with Steamworks and not Games for Windows for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.  It seems as if Bethesda would rather not deal with any of the troubles associated with Games for Windows; the DRM protection, and a system that ties all downloads to your on-line account.

Sounds like they have already made up their minds on the matter.  Even going so far as confirming the choice through the official Skyrim Twitter by tweeting:

We can confirm today that we’re using Steamworks for Skyrim

Which is good for gamers since we won’t have to deal with a troubled service that requires much of us.  All we want is to have the game, and play it as soon as we get home.  So come this November everything will be up and ready for you to enjoy your time with Skyrim.

The upcoming UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss game that will become available for the PS Vita will have more than just new ways to play the game.  It also features a brand new cast member to join our hero through his perilous journey for glory.  Her name is Marisa Chase, but only grandpa gets the privilege to call her that everyone else just calls her “Chase.”  She is the new female protagonist that will make Drake’s adventure harder than it should be.

I have to admit she seems better equipped to handle her self than Elena was, but I still gotta go with Elena she is too gorgeous and awesome to ever be replaced by the “Chase!”

The new character is voiced by Christine Lakin, click her name to find out who she is.  She seems like a very interesting character and is sure to create plenty of trouble for our hero.  Or perhaps even show Drake how treasure hunting should be done.
