It seems that you won’t be getting Resistance 3 bundled in with that spiffy new PlayStation Branded 3D display anymore.  Instead, you will be getting MotorStorm: Apocalypse bundled in the package.  The game will still have all the functions as Resistance 3, which means you can still put on those 3D glasses and enjoy split screen across the screen.  This is a bit saddening as Resistance 3 seems like a game better qualified to be packed into the bundle, since you have shooting involved and heavier action in the game. It’s perfect for starting a couch co-op session with your friend and enjoy it with each other having a full screen to play on.  The replacing  was noticed by gamers checking out different retailers offering the deal, especially Amazon, and then Insomniac Games tweeted saying:

For those asking about the 3DTV bundle:http://t.co/y0o9u4F — Motorstorm: Apocolypse replaced Resistance 3. Sorry for any inconvenience

Seems like all the retailers have switched to the default deal now.  A couple will be offering Resistance 3 as part of the deal, those two rebels are Amazon and GameStop.  Each will give you Resistance 3 as a bonus for pre-ordering the Display.  Best Buy still lists Resistance 3 as the game packed in which means they probably haven’t updated the description.  So if you planned on picking it up Amazon and GameStop seem to be the best deals available.

This is one of the reasons I’m starting to believe that we need new consoles to hit the market. Id Software’s John Carmack is not shy about discussing his frustrations in porting Rage over to the PS3 and Xbox 360.

“It is extremely frustrating knowing that the hardware we’ve got on the PC is often ten times as powerful as the consoles but it has honestly been a struggle in many cases to get the game running at 60 frames per second on the PC like it does on a 360,”

John Carmack goes into detail on the difficulties his programmers are having, visit CVG for the full story.

Congratulations are in order for Stallion83 who has accomplished a very difficult, amazing, and strenuous feat.  No he didn’t reach the top of Mount Everest, and no he didn’t resolve a world crisis that would result in the end of all human life as we know it.  What he did was reach the level of Legend by Unlocking game achievements.  He recently reached 600,000 achievement points which is an astonishing to say the least.  The achievement that got him to 600,000 was the HOMEWRCKER achievement from Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon.

He has held the record for having the biggest gamerscore in the world for the past 5 years and even been features in the 2010 & 2011 Guinness Book of World Records for having such a high score.  He’s been at it since 2006 and still continues till this day.  His goal is to reach 1,000,000 achievement points which is a lot easier said that done.  Along with the goal of reaching 1,000,000 he also hopes to reach 666,666 by Halloween of this year which will be a bit difficult since it’s only a few months away, but you know what, I believe in him and I’m willing to put money on him, any takers?  Just kidding, but in all seriousness he is on a roll and achieving a lot.  I’m sure we can expect other great things from this Legend among gamers.  Awesome Rocky 2 inspired video of him working towards his goal below.  Be sure to watch it as it even inspired me to go and play some games.

Having delayed Twisted Metal until early next year, David Jaffe voiced the reasons behind the decision.  The team over at Sleep Eat Play needed to address some issues regarding boss fights, balancing, player caps, trophies and a few more things making impossible for an  October release.

No real way to ship Twisted Metal sooner than the date we are currently shooting for (early 2012)…Sorry for the delay. But the extra months are really needed for polish and we feel we need more than 4-6 weeks (which would see us hitting shelves in your suggested November time frame) of polish/tuning. Also hitting smack dab in mid Nov/Mid Dec is a bad time to release this game (although that was not the reason we delayed AT ALL…we WANTED to be out in Oct)…but the extra time gives us more time to balance weapons, tune vehicle handling, tune the EXP progression for levelling up, etc…I assure you, better to be a LITTLE ANNOYED in the short term versus hate us forever for shipping a game that’s not up to your understandably high expectations. ANY money is a lot to ask from someone for entertainment. 60 bucks is a S**TE TON to ask for so if we are going to charge that, you deserve our best…even if it takes a little longer than we anticipated.
Some examples of stuff we’re not happy with yet- which should allow you and others to really peek behind the scenes at the kind of stuff this kind of extra time will allow:
Iron Maiden has a few boss attacks that don’t have strong enough telegraphs (aka- the player isn’t able to clearly, consistently tell when she is going to launch the attack)
Iron Maiden has an attack that- even if you can see it coming- the player is not really sure how to avoid it besides using a shield (and we want the player to always have another defensive ability beyond a shield)
We are not 100% happy with the XP rank up tuning….we don’t want you to be able to hit the level cap too soon but we also don’t want the level cap to be so hard to reach that only super amazing hard core can reach it
There are 1-2 online trophies that will motivate players to take actions that go against the more team oriented aspects of some of the modes and thus will piss off other players so we need to rethink and replace those
Pick up placements for split screen local gaming needs more attention
Pick up regen timing needs some tuning…
So imagine about 250 of those sorts of things. Could we ship without change a single one? Totally and it would still be a really fun game. But it would not be good enough for us. And certainly not for you.

It’s no secret here at the Playground offices that I am a huge Borderlands fan. It’s the only game in which I have purchased and completed all DLC available. For a non-completionist gamer such as myself, that’s a huge commitment. But i digress, with the announcement of Borderlands 2 I would be remiss if I did not share every detail I discover with you.

This months GameInformer has all the exclusive details but a few more have emerged:

  • Each manufacturer will have their own visual styling/theme. The purpose of this is to be able to easily identify a weapon’s manufacturer and quality by simple looking at it.  No manufacturers will have the same looking gun
  • NPC’s will be fully animated and move around their locations, interacting with objects within their locations
  • Gearbox wants to make 4 seating standard on each vehicle
  • Class mods and Artifacts will be returning
  • BL2′s skill tree will maintain the 3 Branch system and have more defined abilities rather than simple stat boosts. It is unknown how many skills will occupy each branch.
  • 2 Gunzerker Skills were mentioned. One, increases the fire rate of any weapon the longer the trigger is held down. A second, while Dual-wielding, increases accuracy with same class weapons, or doubles damage for different class weapons.

Needless to say, I can’t wait for Borderlands 2.
