LulzSec on the Defense

It seems the tables have turned for a group which thought of it self as unstoppable.  LulzSec has now become the victim as other hackers brought down the groups website momentarily.  Showing that no one is truly safe when your on the net, no matter who you are or what kind of skills you posses.

Following the attack and momentary shut down of the LulzSec website, a hacker by the nickname of Oneiroi tweeted the follow.

“I’d like to let the public know that phase one of OPERATION SUPERNOVA has been successful.  Lulzsecurity.com is Tango down at this time”

The website was brought back up soon after the attack, but  not without another group by the name of TeaMp0ison taking a jab at them.

“We’re here to show the world that they’re nothing but a bunch of script kiddies. We’re going to let them do what they do. Then we’re going to do what we do. We’re going to hit them hard”

Looks like the events will be escalating to a point where we see full retaliations from the different groups against each others. Perhaps even the true identities of members from each group.  Check back to find out the upcoming events of Hacker Wars 2011!

Brink gets help jumping over those steep hurdles as Bethesda discloses details on the upcoming DLC, Agents of Change for Brink.  The release is set to take place in early July and will be free to play for the first two weeks of its initial release on Xbox LIVE, PSN and Steam, which is a great move to show players if it is worth investing more money into the game.

The DLC will include two new outfits for your character to wear, five new abilities, two weapon attachments to customize your guns, and two new environments.  A previous Bethesda post reveals a full list and description of the contents which is below:

New Maps

  • Founders’ Tower – The revolution finally reaches the island’s iconic spire and takes the battle for the Ark to dizzying heights.
  • Labs – Venture into the depths of the Ark’s original research and development laboratories, a submerged high-tech facility so far untouched by the civil war.

New Player Abilities

  • UAV – This stealthy and lethal device allows Operatives to automatically mark nearby enemies on their radar. For more explosive fun, they can even take direct control of the UAV and detonate it near unsuspecting foes.
  • Napalm Grenade – Soldiers can use this new grenade to cover an area in a sea of deadly flames.
  • Pyro Mine – Engineers can plant these mines and leave enemies in the epicenter of a massive napalm explosion.
  • Field Regen Unit – Medics can deploy these units to increase the health regeneration of any nearby teammates.
  • Tactical Scanner – This universal ability allows players to reveal the active buffs of their opponents, allowing them to pick off enemies more strategically.

New Weapon Attachments

  • Bayonets – Gain the edge in melee combat and cause extra damage with these deadly blades.
  • Weapon Shields – Take cover from enemy fire and prevent headshot bonus damage behind riot-style shields.

New Character Outfits

  • The Sad Punk – Add a touch of Steampunk to your Resistance character.
  • The Limey – Bring order to the Ark with this outfit inspired by traditional European police.

Along with the release of the new content there will also be a update for the game, which should address problems players are having such as the balancing of the weapons, and the game AI. Expect the update to become available along the release of the DLC. Hopefully this will give players a more well rounded experience with the game and showcase what it can truly do.

Marathon is a old classic released way back in 1994 for the Apple Macintosh. It’s being re-released soon for the Apple iPad. The interesting part is that the game will not be developed in house by Bungie, but is being worked on by a very big fan of the game Daniel Blezek, who originally was able to get the source code for the game in 1999. On the Bungie website there is a interview with him, there you can read about his hardships about creating a game that was released such a long time ago.

He explains how the new control scheme will work on the iPad.

“For now, there is a left thumb virtual joystick for moving, the “action” button is tucked under. On the right thumb, you have primary and secondary fire buttons; the weapon switch buttons are at the bottom. There are a few hidden buttons as well. Touching the HUD motion sensor brings up the auto map. The left and right sides of the ammo display switch weapons and the center toggles between the ammo and inventory displays.”

The game will be given away to anyone who wishes to download it off the Apple Store for their iPad and is close to being released but no confirmed time has been said for this old school classic, but Bungie will be keeping us informed of any new information.

America Really Wants The Last Story, Xenoblade, and Pandora’s Tower

Xenoblade is a bold and ambitious RPG by Monolith Soft, the studio who brought us the Xenosaga and Baten Kaitos series’.  Released in June of 2010, Xenoblade garnered great reviews and enjoyed great sales.  Even placing number one in its debut week.

When The Last Story by Mistwalker studios in 2010, it was met with excitement throughout the industry.  Famed and respected developer, Hironobu Sakaguchi collaborated with Nintendo to delivery a new form of RPG.  Due to a translation error on his blog, it was thought Sakaguchi would retire after completion.  The charismatic developer was simply stating that he would be working on the title as if it were his last.  When released in Japan early this year, Famitsu scored it a 38/40.  Battles included a new level of action and strategy involving flanking, distractions, and a cover system ala Gears of War for advanced tactics.

Pandora’s Tower is an action RPG by Ganbarion.  The title uses some play on greek mythology and places two character in the titular tower seeking to remove a curse on one of them by obtaining the flesh of the monsters that dwell within.

What do these three titles have in common?  All three are critically acclaimed and commercially successful Wii games in Japan and none are coming to North America as of yet.  Fans have had interest in these games for some time and yet it seems their cries have fallen on deaf ears.  So a few gamers have banded together to star a letter campaign to Reggie Fils-Amie.  Originally starting in the IGN boards, it has now grown into a movement and now you too can join the cause.  Usually gamers have a lax attitude about localizing big Japanese games, but it’s nice to see our brethren being proactive.  Details below.  If you decide to join the cause please keep all letters respectful.

XENOBLADE:
write a polite letter, pointing out the need for the game
optional item – miniature toy swords or cocktail swords
target date – July 11-13, 2011 (plan your letters to arrive around the 6th, not to ship on the 6th)

bellow is a letter template, but feel free to write your own, just try to be polite if possible

Dear Reggie,

As a fan of your company and of RPGs, I was extremely excited about the reveal of Monado which was later retitled Xenoblade. After it’s reveal at E3 2008 it quickly became one of my most anticipated games for the Wii, and as more information, screens, and trailers were released my interest only expanded. I am deeply concerned that this game has no North American release planned, especially considering the sparse lineup on the wii in the next year. I have been a Loyal fan of this company for over 25 years, and yet there hasn’t been a game worth getting on your console for nearly 8 months… and nothing on the horizon to be excited about besides Zelda, and yet Xenoblade sits completed, and soon to be localized for Europe in English. Please consider your company’s fans, please bring Xenoblade to us.

Sincerely,
(your name here – signed)

THE LAST STORY:
write a polite letter, pointing out the need for the game
optional item – a small book, a cover of a book, or the last page/chapter/epilogue of a book
target date – July 18-20, 2011 (plan your letters to arrive around the 13th, not to ship on the 13th)

bellow is a letter template, but feel free to write your own, just try to be polite if possible

Dear Reggie,

As a fan of your company and of RPGs, I was extremely excited about the reveal of the Last Story. Being a fan of Mistwalker and Hironobu Sakaguchi, it quickly became one of my most anticipated games for the Wii, and when the gorgeous art and impressive screens and trailers were released I only became more excited for the game. PANDORA’S TOWER:
write a polite letter, pointing out the need for the game
optional item – MEAT, preferably a dried meat such as Beef Jerky, Slim Jims, or Landjager (Hunter’s Sausage)

bellow is a letter template, but feel free to write your own, just try to be polite if possible

Dear Reggie,

As a fan of your company and of games like Castlevania, I was extremely excited about the reveal of Pandora’s Tower. From the initial cryptic reveal, to the delightfully twisted plot details that followed, I have been craving this game all year. I am deeply concerned that this game has no North American release planned, especially considering the sparse lineup on the wii in the next year. I have been a Loyal fan of this company for over 25 years, and yet there hasn’t been a game worth getting on your console for nearly 8 months… and nothing on the horizon to be excited about besides Zelda, and yet Pandora’s Tower sits completed. Documents from a class action lawsuit against Sony allege that the company laid off members of it’s security staff shortly before the attack that lead Sony to shutting down the Playstation Network and Sony Online Entertainment.

“Sony sought to cut its costs at the expense of its customers by terminating a significant number of employees immediately prior to the security breach, including personnel responsible for maintaining the security of the network,”

Microsoft Setting Up to Offer F2P Games

Microsoft seems to be following the popular trend of offering F2P games. It is said that the company is creating ties with developers to offer free games on it’s network. The idea is being presented to game developers. The cost of the games would be covered by offering the option to the player to buy  in-game items.  Players will make use of Microsoft points to complete transactions, so no new monetary system would have to be implemented for the experience.

If Microsoft hopes to really succeed with this idea and make it extremely successful, they will have to come out strong with many great games under the line-up. The competition already has titles which allow the player free play time.  The most recent title to go this route is Valve’s Team Fortress 2. Free Realms by Sony offers the player free playing time with micro transactions and has had a abundance of success as reports state that there are over 10 million users on that service.

A SCEE spokesman has confirmed to CVG that three bundles are coming to PlayStation 3.  The Uncharted Collection containing both Drakes Fortune and Among Thieves will hit store shelves along with the Resistance Dual Pack.  You can also count on Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction and Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time bundle to show up the same day as well.

The Uncharted and Ratchet bundles will include dynamic PS3 themes and avatars.  As for the Resistance Dual Pack, it’ll include an exclusive skin for Resistance 3.  No word of an American release was given but I’m sure these’s packs will show up at local retailers this summer.
